Ms. P. W. Yoshida Lakshani
The Promising Scientist of the Year 2021
Ms. Lakshani born in April 1982 in Galle district who completed her primary education from Prajapathi Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Ambalangoda and the secondary education at Dharmasoka college, Ambalangoda, later entered into the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of science, University of Colombo, and obtained BSc (pharmacy) in 2007. In 2011, she joined the Sri Lanka Agriculture Service and presently works at the Horticultural Crop Research and Development Institute of the Department of Agriculture. Subsequently, she obtained her Master degree in Analytical Chemistry from Post Graduate Institute of Science, University of Peradeniya in 2019.
Obtaining the ISO/IEC 17025 Accreditation for the Analytical laboratory of the Registrar of Pesticides Office in 2017 as the first accredited laboratory attached to the Department of Agriculture. Pioneering the disposal of 25 tons of obsolete pesticides accumulated in 21 Institutions belongs to the Department of Agriculture since 1970, which contain Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) and minimize of the potential environment and health risk originated. Publishing several research articles based on pesticide residue analysis; and Handling the modern sophisticated analytical equipment are the key accomplishments she has completed during her period of career in the department.
